Here are 5 shocking medical experiments that have been conducted on humans:
Number 5 was the Guatemala syphilis study. CBS News reported that from 1946 to 1948, the U.S. government worked with the Guatemalan officials and conducted medical experiments which involved deliberately infecting Guatemalan prisoners and prostitutes with Syphilis. A life-threating sexually transmitted disease, Syphillis can cause internal organ failure if untreated.
Number 4 were the Human medical experiments by Unit 731, a research group developed by the Japanese army between 1930s and 1940s. Located in northern China, the Japanese unit was responsible for conducting gruesome human experiments that claimed the lives of 250,000 prisoners. Number 3 – Camp 22 is one of the largest concentration camps in North Korea housing nearly 50,000 political prisoners. It is known to have gas chambers where many bone-chilling experiments are conducted on prisoners. A former aide at the camp told the tragic story of parents in the chamber who tried to save their kids from dying by doing mouth-to-mouth breathing till the last moment.
Number 2 – The Monster study was conducted in 1939 as part of the Stuttering Research program at the University of Iowa. The objective was to test if children become stutters under psychological pressure. Conducted on orphans, the children were constantly belittled for small imperfections in their speech. Consequently, some of them became stutters and suffered from speech problems throughout their lives.
Number 1 was the Aversion Therapy. Thousands of gay male and female soldiers were subjected to electric shock therapy, hormonal treatment, chemical castration, and sex change operations by the South African army in order to cure their homosexuality. The therapy took place during the time of apartheid from 1970s to 1980s, when homosexuality was considered a crime.
