Fluoride & Cancer: The Dark Connections

Fact checked by The People's Voice Community

The benefits of fluoride have been taught to children in The United States from a young age – among other things, many are taught that it’s safe, healthy, and improves hygiene.  But, there may be another side to the story.

According to Daily Super Food Love [1]:

unless you follow health blogs about toxins and public safety, you’ve probably never heard a single negative thing about the dangers of fluoride from your school, adults, or the dentist. In fact, there is a great possibility that you’ve received additional “fluoride treatments” from your dentist over the years – even as an adult.

The Shady History of Fluoride

Approximately a century ago, researchers observed that children who lived in areas where fluorine (an element found in the rock, soil, and water) was more abundant had fewer cavities.

In the 1940s, without testing long-term effects of fluoride on the human body, the population of Grand Rapids, Michigan became the first recipient of mass fluoridation in what was supposed to be a human health study conducted over the next 15 years.

Experts urged for more research to verify safety, but they were ignored.

Before the Grand Rapids study was completed, other communities around the country rushed to add fluoride to their water. Now, 70 years later, more than 200 million American citizens consume fluoridated water. In fact, more of the United States population is fluoridated than all other pro-fluoridation countries combined.

Fluoride is the only “medicine” purposely added to our water supply.

A few years ago, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) listed mass fluoridation of the water supply as one of their greatest achievements in the last century. They stand firm (as do so many other organizations) that fluoride is harmless.

More than 90% of the fluoride poured into our water is not even pharmaceutical grade. It is a chemical by-product of fertilizer manufacturing. A clever and profitable use of garbage.

67% of Americans are fluoridated compared to 3% of Europeans.

Many developed nations around the world have banned fluoridation after extensive research into the long-term dangers of fluoride. Some areas in the United States refuse to fluoridate their water. There are public awareness groups that fight the government to have fluoride removed from the water we drink. There is no such thing as a fluoride deficiency.

Pro-Fluoridation “Experts” say, “There is no solid proof that fluoridation is harmful.”

Anti-Fluoridation Activists say, “There is no solid proof that fluoridation is beneficial.”

Fluoride is found in junk food and soda, prescription drugs, in pesticides that have saturated our environment, heightened by using cancer-causing non-stick cookware, and in dental products. In other words, we have zero need for additional fluoride.

Now, decades after the first water supply was pumped full of a toxin in the interest of “good teeth,” the long-term effects are finally being seen. We are being overdosed on fluoride.

In addition, the presence of too much fluoride increases your body’s absorption of toxins that are known to be carcinogenic, absorption of other elements and minerals to dangerous levels, and suppression of the immune system.

While fluoride might be “harmless” in small amounts, in the amounts the average child or adult in the United States is receiving, it is anything but good for you.

This “beneficial” drug has been linked to…
Lower IQ in children
Learning disabilities
Behavioral disorders
Rapid aging
Decrease in bone density and strength
Metabolic dysfunction
Autoimmune disease
Cognitive decline
Increased risk of cancer

Yes, you read that right. Too much fluoride leads to an increased risk of cancer. One of the primary sites for fluoride bioaccumulation is in the bones of your body.

In a study published in Cancer, Causes, and Control in 2006, researchers stated, “For males diagnosed before the age of 20 years, fluoride level in drinking water during growth was associated with an increased risk of osteosarcoma [bone cancer].”

Osteosarcoma is a bone cancer that is almost always diagnosed in the teen years. Males are more susceptible than females, though scientists are unsure why.

Other than your bones, fluoride can break down many tissues in your body. It has been proven to cause genetic mutations to cells and initiate cell death in healthy cells. It is now being researched in regards to lung cancer and bladder cancer. It accumulates in the soft tissues such as the brain, endocrine system, reproductive system, kidneys, skin, muscles, and joints.

3 Ways to Remove the Dangers of Fluoride

  1.  Research water filters. Many filters can remove up to 90% of the fluoride added to your water. If you use well water, your risk of fluoride toxicity is much lower.
  2. Get rid of non-stick pans if you haven’t by now! It concentrates the fluoride content of the food and liquids cooked in them. Besides, they’re carcinogenic on their own!
  3. Stop ingesting fluoride where you can. Avoid processed food and sodas (Instead, try 10 of our favorite fruit infused water recipes here). Buy oral hygiene products that don’t have added fluoride. Never use fluoridated tap water in your baby’s formula bottle!

Lowering your daily intake of fluoride is critical to good health. The dangers of fluoride include a 400% increase in dental fluorosis (increased cavities, infections of the mouth, and other periodontal breakdown) over the last 60 years.

The data on fluoride toxicity should encourage the governmental agencies to question their “greatest achievement” and stop mass medicating the American population.
