The Gay Agenda: Are They Coming to Get you?

Fact checked

Browse some conspiracy or religious right websites and you’ll likely find references to a so called “gay/homosexual agenda.” But what is this “gay agenda” really? Does it even exist?

There is false rhetoric of a”gay agenda” being perpetuated by the likes of American radio host Alex Jones:

“…In order to normalize what was previously considered aberration behavior, the left is pushing the gay agenda into avenues of mass media, television, cinema and video games.” -Alex Jones, INFOWARS.COM, May 19, 2014,

Also of British conspiracy theorist David Icke:

“…Look how the homosexual agenda is being forced upon us all to the detriment of heterosexual relationships…”-David Icke Newsletter, August 9, 2009,

And of radical right-wing political commentator Ben Shapiro:

“…If you pay tuition, you’re sponsoring the militant homosexual agenda. If you pay taxes, you’re sponsoring the militant homosexual agenda. If your child majors in English, you’re sponsoring the militant homosexual agenda. Tell Billy to major in Math.”-Ben Shapiro, townhall.com, August 20, 2003,

The ideas presented by these men and others in the religious right for decades has it’s roots in a 1987 parody article written by Michael Swift in a gay community magazine called Gay Community News.

This article has since been printed in the Congressional Records and has been frequently cited by conspiracy theorists and the religious right, supposedly verbatim, as evidence of the “gay agenda.” Though, they always omit the first sentence, the most crucial part of the article, to push their bigoted agenda and justify their inner homophobia:

“This essay is an outré, madness, a tragic, cruel fantasy, an eruption of inner rage, on how the oppressed desperately dream of being the oppressor.”

The original article (found here in its entirety) was written as a parody. The gays are not coming to get you, your children, or your wife. This is despite the efforts of Icke, Jones, Shapiro and others who would want you to think otherwise. The video below is a funny example of how silly this “gay agenda” nonsense all is.
