UK weather warning – UK braces itself for Boxing Day snow

Fact checked by The People's Voice Community

UK weather warnings have been issued by the UK Met office as up to 10cm of snow are expected in parts of the UK on Boxing Day.

The Independent reports:

Swathes of the UK could be covered in snow on Boxing Day – with some areas being warned to expect up to ten centimetres (4 inches) on the ground.

The Met Office issued a yellow warning of snow from 11am Friday until 6pm on Saturday and said there is the risk of several centimetres falling even at low levels.

A spokesperson said there was an 80 per cent chance cold conditions could “increase the health risks to vulnerable patients and disrupt the delivery of services”.

Rain and sleet are also expected to fall across parts of Northern Ireland, England and Wales before clearing during the evening and overnight into Saturday.

There is still some uncertainty about which regions will see snow, but where it does fall there could be accumulations of between two cm (0.8in) and four cm (1.6in) and in excess of 10 cm in areas of higher ground.

Parts of the UK that could be hit by snow include Strathclyde, Northern Ireland, Wales, north-west and north-east England, London and the south-east of England.
