VIDEO: If You Thought Sea World’s Tilikum’s Story Was Sad, Meet Orkid

Fact checked
Sea World

Many have seen the tragic documentary, Blackfish (trailer below), about Tilikum, the Killer Whale.  Sea World has suffered greatly since the release of the film.  There are, however, other whales and animals in captivity that have stories even more tragic than Tilikum.

From Collective-Evolution:

Marine animal exhibitions are chlorinated prisons in which families are torn apart and individuals are stressed, scared, and scarred. There are multiple heart-breaking consequences of confining animals in this way, and you can read more about that here.

This is precisely why profits at Sea World have dropped a staggering 84 percent. You can read more about that here.

Below is a story about Orkid, an Orca who has been imprisoned for decades. She’s watched other orcas die in front of her and, in reaction to being under such duress, has dragged trainers into the water. She has never had even a taste of freedom.

“Orkid’s story isn’t unique. SeaWorld enslaves many animals in small tanks at marine parks around the country, where they’re forced to perform tricks for food. It’s a business built on the suffering of intelligent, social animals who are denied everything that is natural and important to them. As a result, animals imprisoned by SeaWorld often die prematurely from captivity-related causes, including ones related to stress.” (Taken from video excerpt)
