Millions Of Brits Warned That Paracetamol Can Increase Heart Attack Risk

Taking paracetamol for long periods could increase the risk of heart attack and stoke in people with high blood pressure, according to an Edinburgh University study.

Researchers say that patients who have a long-term prescription for the painkiller should be given the lowest effective dose for the shortest time possible.

According to the scientists, it has been assumed that paracetamol was a completely safe drug to use in patients with the condition.

Strange just how many news articles are now warning us about the risk of heart attacks, blood clots and strokes.

The Mirror reports: But their findings indicate the effect on blood pressure is similar to non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen, which are known to increase blood pressure and risk of heart disease, and also used to manage chronic pain.

The increase in blood pressure might be expected to increase the risk of heart disease or stroke by around 20%, the experts say.

They suggest the study should lead to a review of long-term paracetamol prescriptions to patients – particularly those with the condition, or those at particular risk of heart disease or stroke.

Professor James Dear, personal chairman of clinical pharmacology at the University of Edinburgh, said: “This study clearly shows that paracetamol – the world’s most used drug – increases blood pressure, one of the most important risk factors for heart attacks and strokes.

“Doctors and patients together should consider the risks versus the benefits of long-term paracetamol prescription, especially in patients at risk of cardiovascular disease.”

He added: “In summary, we’ve shown that two weeks of treatment with paracetamol increases blood pressure in patients who have hypertension (high blood pressure).”

Lead investigator Dr Iain MacIntyre, consultant in clinical pharmacology and nephrology at NHS Lothian, said: “This is not about short-term use of paracetamol for headaches or fever, which is, of course, fine – but it does indicate a newly discovered risk for people who take it regularly over the longer term, usually for chronic pain.”

The study found that after people stopped taking the drug, their blood pressure returned to what it was at the start of the study, suggesting the drug increased it.

  1. If you have high blood pressure, it means you are doing something to cause it to be high. Modern society suggests you just take a couple of pills for the rest of your life and you can continue doing what it was that caused your blood pressure to be high. A prudent man will check to see what is causing the high blood pressure and stop doing it instead of taking the pills (for the rest of your life). Get off the pills people. It changes your character and personality, it steals your brain and of course, it shortens your life, all paid for by yourself. If ice-cream makes you sick, do you continue to eat it, while popping a few anti-ice-cream sickness pills?

  2. You mean a drug could have serious, adverse consequences??? I thought all drugs were “safe and effective”. I been hearing that term constantly for the past year.

    • Don’t be silly ! We all know by now that all sorts of things can cause heart attacks – cold weather, global warming, going to the gym, not going to the gym, playing football, watching football, depression, going to school, shaking out duvets – the list is endless! But not the vaccines, oh no, heaven forfend, never the vaccines, they’re absolutely safe, we all know that too, they keep telling us that so it must be true.

  3. Reuters reporting Japan is at 1% of its COVID peak cases and falling. India is at 3% of its peak and falling. What did these countries do? Ditch vaccine mandates for ivermectin. Since April 28, India medical officials started providing hydroxychloroquine and Ivermectin to its massive population. As India is the major pharmaceutical manufacturer in the world, they were ready for this massive drug distribution. MIRACULOUSLY!, COVID cases have plummeted quickly since then. Meanwhile, all “first world” countries in Europe are reporting a rise in cases. Get your ivermectin before it is too late! ivmcures/com (Looks like I can’t post links, replace / with .)

  4. I put ice cream on everythang but the side elf effect are a hiary tung a sleep walking dream cop in my dream i mean I`am a sleep walking dream cop and busting anyone still awake and hot and cold clouds passing me on the interstate in some unknown country and I throw ice cream on everyone and tell them to have a nice day
