Sanders Says Hillary Email Scandal Is Too Big To Ignore Now

Fact checked
Bernie Sanders says he will now address the Hillary Clinton email scandal as it has grown too big to ignore

Bernie Sanders has  changed his mind over Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server whilst she was Secretary of State, saying that the issue has become a matter of public concern.

Just months after Sanders announced that Americans were “sick and tired of hearing about your damn emails,” he told Bill Maher that the public now need answers.

In an interview on Friday on the  “Real Time with Bill Maher” show, Sanders was asked if the Clinton email scandal had become large enough for him to reconsider his refusal to confront her on the issue. Sanders responded by saying “it has”.

“But this is what I also think: There is an enormous frustration on the part of the American people,” he continued.

Columbian.com reports:

The State Department’s inspector general found in a report released this past week that the email setup violated department rules, that Clinton never sought permission for it, and that the proposal would have been rejected if she had. The report handed Clinton’s Republican opponents a fresh line of attack — and Sanders, too, if he chose to take it. Clinton’s competitor for the Democratic presidential nomination won praise at a candidates’ debate on October when he said, “Enough of the emails. Let’s talk about the real issues facing America.” At the time, his campaign used the comments in a fund-raising email.

Seven months later, the delegates to be chosen June 7 in California and five other state nominating contests represent a last-ditch effort to close the gap with Clinton before the Democratic convention in July. Clinton holds a nearly insurmountable lead in pledged delegates, and is far ahead in popular votes. But a strong performance in California could boost Sanders’ case that superdelegates — party leaders and elected officials not bound to any candidate — should switch their allegiance to him on the basis of perceived electability against Republican Donald Trump.

In another sign Sanders has taken off the gloves, his campaign late Friday demanded the ouster of Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy and former Rep. Barney Frank of Massachusetts from a platform committee at the Democratic National Convention. The campaign, in a statement, said the two are “aggressive attack surrogates” for Clinton, and Sanders’s lawyer said Malloy and Frank can’t work impartially “while laboring under such deeply held bias.”

In a letter delivered to Democratic National Committee late Friday, Brad Deutsch, Sanders’s campaign counsel, wrote of animosity by Frank toward Sanders dating to 1991.

  1. Senator Sanders has all the qualities of a true leader including honesty, humility, intelligence, experience, fairness, kindness, and he is passionate about helping the younger Americans succeed, thus building a stronger and brighter USA for future generations. Vote smart. Vote Bernie!

        • Common protection of course – fire department, army, etc.
Common use of course – roads, basic schools (1-12).
But not handouts like free medical, free college, etc. These well-intentioned entitlements will break us. Already $20 trillion in debt due to both Parties.

          • Why is 1-12 ok but college isn’t? You used to be able to get a good paying job with a HS deploma… no more.

Why is medical not as important as roads? Poor people do not deserve to die and suffer because rich people have stacked the odds of success against them for generations.

          • You’re probably a nice guy, but did you know that our national debt is $20 trillion and still growing? Did you know that our unfunded liabilities are over $100 trillion dollars. So you want to add trillions more to pay for “poor folks” and college students upkeep???

Not being satisfied working as a grocery clerk for the rest of my life, I worked my way through community college and transferred to 4 year state college. Took out loans and repaid over 10 years. Now I want to save for our secure retirement and kids college expenses, not other folks upkeep who refuse to bust their a__ like we’ve done for many years.

    • Thomas Jefferson Warned Us About Socialism.

Thomas Jefferson understood the attraction of Socialism and the inclination to live well on government assistance while exerting as little work effort and initiative as possible. Jefferson understood politicians have used the attraction of Socialistic promises to gain great power. Jefferson understood what brought down nations and governments and why Rome fell,

“The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.” Cicero (paraphrased) 55 BC

Jefferson warned us and our posterity,

“To take from one because it is thought that his own industry and
that of his father’s has acquired too much, in order to spare to others, who, or whose fathers have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association — the guarantee to every one of a free exercise of his industry and the fruits acquired by it.” Thomas Jefferson

  3. Hillary Clinton sacrificed national security in order to have complete control of messages, all for political purposes.

  4. I’m old enough to remember the Watergate scandal. People were more shocked about the elaborate cover up and lies than breaking into DNC headquarters. Hillary’s scandal is a double cover up. Employees were told never to speak of the home server and the server’s sole purpose was to conceal things which must be available to the public under the freedom of information act.

  6. Hillary used the private server to hide her corruption. It’s more convenient to hide it that way. Money came in through the Clinton Foundation while favors and influence came out of the State Department. These dots are not hard to connect. Saudi was obviously not donating for women’s rights, they were waging war and needed weapons deals and free reign.

  8. We love Bernie Sanders. Hillary Clinton will have charges recommended against her by the FBI, but even if she doesn’t, it’s clear what she did was wrong. Worse, she lied about it and continues to lie; that’s inexcusable.

        • what policies are you talking about when you claim that Dems have moved LEFT in any significant way?

          • Exhibit A – Socialist/communist Bernie Sanders has over 40% of primary vote of Democrats

          • Bernie is a New Deal “Socialist”. A long way from a Communist, and much less Socialist than any of the Scandinavian countries he’s compared to. Even President Eisenhower (a Republican) was more of a Socialist than him. By that standard, the whole political spectrum has shifted right, A LOT. Especially considering the astounding lack of support Bernie’s getting from the Democratic elite.

          • I’m no Bernie expert but I understand he would prefer the USA to be more like socialist Demark. He had close affiliation with the Soviet Union early on. He wants free stuff and up to 90% tax rates. Sounds communist to me.

          • More like Denmark, but not just like them. Again, he’s significantly less of a Socialist than the governments he’s often compared to. Also, his vision is one where everyone has opportunities to elevate themselves without signing a deal with the devil, not where everyone is equal; he’s much more of a Capitalist than a Communist (much like FDR, Eisenhower, etc.). Finally, the extent of his ties to the USSR were when he named Burlington, VT the sister city to Yaroslavl. Anyone claiming that that means he supported their regime is grasping at straws. Example: Burlington is also sister city to Bethlehem, and Bernie is very critical of the Israeli government.

          • “There is nobody in this country who got rich on their own. Nobody. You built a factory out there – good for you. But I want to be clear. You moved your goods to market on roads the rest of us paid for. You hired workers the rest of us paid to educate. You were safe in your factory because of police forces and fire forces that the rest of us paid for. You didn’t have to worry that marauding bands would come and seize everything at your factory… Now look. You built a factory and it turned into something terrific or a great idea – God bless! Keep a hunk of it. But part of the underlying social contract is you take a hunk of that and pay forward for the next kid who comes along.” -Elizabeth Warren

Fact is I help pay for the schools, the roads, the fire and the army. I’m one of the 51% who actually pay federal income taxes. So now you want to double my tax rate to pay for others upkeep. No thanks. I have other priorities – like retirement savings.

          • England has universal healthcare, their infrastructure is lightyears ahead of ours, and their maximum college tuition is $13,000 per year.

Thatcher lowered income taxes, but she increased indirect taxes (sales tax, etc), which puts significantly more tax burden on the poor, and on small businesses. Her time as Prime Minister set records for unemployment. Her approval ratings were terrible, and she was eventually forced to resign.

          • Just got back after 3 weeks in England. More and more of their doctors and nurses are from the third world. They can’t afford to hire better trained people born in their own country. England has a national debt to GDP ratio of about 90%. They’re a basket case. No thanks comrade.

          • Ranked by who? I’ll take our system over any others. Yes our debt is huge, socialists like Bernie and Elizabeth just want to add more to it. We need to cut entitlements, it’s unfunded growth will swamp us. Our kids future at stake. Our corporate tax rates already highest in world. Look up a few companies and you will see they’re paying plenty. Don’t believe what you hear.

          • Lot of companies lost money during that economic downturn. You don’t pay taxes if you loose money. Take a look at those companies now and you see they’re paying billions in taxes.
            Example: Verizon
            2015 $10 billion income tax, 35%
Get the facts, don’t rely on socialist propaganda.

          • Thank God for companies like GE who compete successfully with highly subsidized foreign competitors and who offer Americans extremely high paying manufacturing jobs.

          • He’s never said anything close to 90% tax rates. In the 60s the top 1% of earners paid around 70%, Bernie would like to see that again. The middle class would actually save money under President Sanders.

          • How nice, dual income families will pay 70%. Mom and Dad who sacrificed, worked long hours and took risks to start their own business, spent years in school for medical practice, now the state wants 70% of their earnings. You think that’s fair? I think it’s crap. Thomas Jefferson warned us about this – dictatorship of the masses.

          • Those dual income families would not qualify. Not even close. I said he would like to see that from the top 1%, but that isn’t what his plans actually are (because it’d never happen). Here, this site will tell you a lot more than I could: http://www.bernietax.com/#0;0

Btw. Infrastructure light years ahead of ours? Tell that to the folks hours in traffic jams in freeways around London.

Go to Google Finance and look up the income statements of publically held corporations that you know: McDonalds, Nordstrom, Boeing. You’ll see that they paid plenty in taxes. Not too many exceptions.

  11. I have a bias. I lost respect for Hillary in the election of 2008. I lost even more respect for her over the past few months but even with my bias I was totally shocked when the inspector general’s report came out.
