School Has 5 Year Old Child Sign ‘Safety Contract’, For Pointing A Crayon Gun At Classmate

An Alabama Mother is furious (and rightly so) that her five year old daughter was a given contract to sign saying she would not kill herself or anybody else after she pointed a crayon at a classmate.

The girl’s mother, known only as Rebecca, claims that staff at E R Dickson Elementary School in Mobile, Alabama, also gave her daughter a questionnaire on suicidal thoughts following the incident in class.

‘They told me she drew something that resembled a gun,’ Rebecca told WPMI-TV.

‘According to them she pointed a crayon at another student and said, ”pew pew”.’
Without her permission, Rebecca said her child was given the Mobile County Public School Safety Contract to sign stating she wouldn’t kill herself or others.

“While I was in the lobby waiting they had my 5-year-old sign a contract about suicide and homicide,” said Rebecca.

“There should be a different way to handle this situation. If this is protocol it needs to be looked at again,” said Rebecca.

“My child interrupted us and said, ‘What is suicide mommy? Daddy what is suicide?” said Rebecca. “As a parent that’s not right. I’m the one should be able to talk to my child and not have someone else mention words like this in front of her at all.”

Rebecca is pushing to have the incident removed from her child’s record. She said school officials have requested Elizabeth see a psychiatrist.

According to state law minors are not allowed, legally to sign a contract.

Local 15 News contacted school officials to see what the proper protocol is when handling behaviour that is considered “violent-like”. They have not yet heard back.

Mobile, in Alabama, was last year ranked the ninth most dangerous city in the US by Washington-based CQ Press reported the Independent, who also tried to contact the school who were not available for comment

The organisation said Detroit, in Michigan, had the highest crime rate in the country while Pine Bluff, in Arkansas, was second highest.
